Regular and frequent sightings of moose are the norm near and around Earthquake Park in Anchorage.

The proximity of bears and humans in this area is tempered by the fact that the bears are very familiar with humans.
Bears will dip their head underwater searching for salmon.
Protective, cautious, tolerant.
Mt. Augustine. The heated gases create a cap cloud obscuring the peak. The gray areas are remnant lava flow which have scoured the mountainside.
Even before landing, the bears are everywhere.
We fly past a smoking, steaming Mt. Augustine, which during it's last eruption in 2006, left me stranded for a couple of days in Dillingham, AK.
